The most recent Perry City Council meeting brought the approval of an agreement that will help better manage a local cemetery.

The Council approved a professional service agreement with Bolton and Menk at their February 7th meeting for a cemetery management system for Violet Hill Cemetery. City Administrator Sven Peterson explains the current situation at the cemetery.

“As it currently is there is a board out at the cemetery that we have to print all of the names every so often to update those.”

Peterson tells Raccoon Valley Radio the project serves multiple purposes for saving time for City Hall staff as well as staff at the cemetery. Peterson explains there will also be a public access portion of the system.

“There will be a public access side that we will provide through our city website. People will actually be able to get on and either search family members or names within the cemetery or look for available spots and purchase spots. All very exciting, I think this definitely takes the cemetery into a new era of efficiency and accessibility to the public.”

The total cost for the service agreement that was approved with Bolton and Menk is not to exceed $9,540.
