For those wanting to celebrate for the big football game Sunday, law enforcement wants to make sure everyone makes it home safely.
Iowa State Patrol District 4 Resource Officer Shelby McCreedy says the Crash Awareness and Reduction Effort will put more law enforcement presence on the roadways to ensure all motorists arrive at their destination safely on Sunday.
“A study done of Super Bowl Sunday. Drunk driving crashes between the years in 2014 and 2018 showed that there’s a 17.5 percent increase in crashes and an 18.4 percent increase in fatalities. So impairment is clearly an issue during the Super Bowl weekend.”
McCreedy explains that people need to plan a designated driver or an uber, or even using a hotel ahead of the big game. She adds that those hosting a party need to monitor who is impaired and not let them drive home.
