Greene County ended the boys’ basketball regular season with a 50-35 loss at Treynor on Thursday night. Coach Chris Nelson’s team is 9-12 entering the postseason with losses in the last four games, while the Cardinals have a 17-3 record with one regular season game left. The top scorer for the Rams on Thursday was senior Max Riley. The 5′ 9″ guard made eight of the Rams’ 14 first half points and kept Greene County in the game at 21-14. The Cardinals scored 21 points in the third quarter alone and pulled away, leading by as much as 22 points in the fourth quarter. Richard Daugherty added nine points with seven for Jesse Miller. Greene County made three of 15 three-point shots and 15 of 45 overall. They were zero for three from the foul line. Treynor went four of 20 from deep and 20 of 46 overall. They made 12 of 15 shots from the free throw line. Twelve of the Rams’ 18 turnovers came in the first half. Treynor had 17 points from Jace Tams and 16 by Thomas Schwartz.

The postseason starts Monday, Feb. 14 vs. Southeast Valley (Gowrie) in Carroll at Kuemper Catholic High School at 6:30 p.m. in the first game of a Class 2A District twin bill.
