The high school wrestling postseason is here for the Greene County Rams. Coach Zach Beekman’s team goes southwest to Harlan for Class 2A Sectional 4 hosted by Harlan Community. In addition to the Cyclones and Rams, teams from Carroll, Glenwood, Red Oak, and Southwest Iowa (Sidney) will be in the field. Wrestling starts at 12 p.m. and the first and second place individuals from all 14 weight classes advance to the Feb. 12 Glenwood District at 11 a.m. The top two teams qualify for a dual meet regional on Feb. 8 at a site to be determined.
Greene County is led by a pair of 2021 State Champions. Kale Petersen is at 120 lbs. after winning the 1A title at 106 lbs. last February for West Fork (Sheffield). McKinley Robbins won the 120 lbs. 2A crown last Feb. for Greene County and is at 132 lbs. this season. Gavin Scheuermann at 152 lbs. was a State qualifier for the Rams at 145 lbs. last season, and Nate Black at 160 lbs. join Petersen and Robbins as the four Rams with the best records heading into the postseason.
All three Raccoon Valley Radio Stations will have reports this afternoon from 1A sectionals in Avoca, Oakland, Ogden, and Pleasantville, as well as the Harlan and Winterset 2A Sectional Tournaments. Reports are scheduled for the 2 p.m., 4 p.m., and 5 p.m. hours.
