The Paton-Churdan basketball teams played Thursday night in Woodbine and are on the bus again tonight, albeit a shorter trip to Westside to face Ar-We-Va. Woodbine won 70-51 in the boys’ game. The girls’ game went to the Tigers 81-19..
The Rockets were up 14-13 after one quarter of the boys’ game, then trailed 37-20 at halftime. Bradyn Smith and Shaydon Thurman each scored 10 points for P-C and nine Rockets got on the scoreboard. Smith also had 10 rebounds, two assists, and two blocked shots, while Seth Thurman had six points, five rebounds, and two assists. Joe Carey led the team in assists with four and he scored five points, as did Riley Cullum. P-C felll to 1-15 overall and 1-10 in Rolling Valley Activities Conference play.
The P-C girls were short of players to begin with, but two Rockets were injured last night, so P-C will not be playing Ar-We-Va tonight at scheduled due to not enough healthy players. The P-C boys will play Ar-We-Va in Westside tonight at 6 p.m. There will be no girls’ game tonight.
The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Association released Class 1A, 2A, and 3A Regional pairings yesterday. Paton-Churdan has been assigned to 1A Region 2 and will open the postseason vs. Ankeny Christian Academy at ACA on Thursday, Feb. 10 at 7 p.m. ACA was 11-8 when the pairings were released. The winner plays on Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. at Audubon High School vs. Audubon or Riverside (Oakland).
