Prior to Thursday’s non-conference girls’ basketball game between Des Moines Hoover and Greene County in Jefferson, the teams combined for one win this season and 34 consecutive losses. Greene County won the contest by a 41-24 score and broke a losing streak of 16 games while winning at home for the first time this season. The Huskies are 0-19 this season and they’ve dropped 24 in a row going back to last season. The contest was heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.

The Rams lone senior is Brianna Habben and she led all players with 19 points as Greene County improved to 2-16. The Rams were down 8-5 in the first quarter, but led 11-8 after the first eight minutes. The lead grew to 25-12 at the half and 32-19 going into the fourth quarter. The biggest Greene County lead was 19 points late in the game. Ashlynn Hinners scored eight points for the Rams while Alayna Jarrett hit four three-pointers for 12 points to lead the Huskies.

The Rams put up a season high 63 shots and made 15, including three of 21 from beyond the arc. The Huskies were eight of 45 overall and four of 23 from three-point range. Both teams were charged with 25 turnovers.

The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union released Class 1A, 2A, and 3A Regional pairings yesterday. The Rams have been assigned to Class 3A Region 7 at Sergeant Bluff-Luton Elementary School vs. the host SB-L Warriors, who was 16-2 at the time the pairings were released. The winner meets either Atlantic or Shenandoah at SB-L on Feb. 16.

The Rams play a girl/boy doubleheader tonight in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference at Nevada. Coverage on KG98 starts at 5:45 p.m. with the girls playing at 6 o’clock and the boys to follow.
