The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Thursday for a budget workshop.

During open forum, Greene County Engineer Wade Weiss gave an update. He talked about increasing the size of a storage bin for sand and salt winter materials from a 20-by-30 foot facility to a 40-by-60 foot facility. He mentioned using a site in Jefferson that the County owns once the underground leaking tank was complete, utilizing state allocated funds.

The Board then approved the sheriff’s quarterly report of fees for October through December of $46,900. The Board then reviewed additional county department and non-department 2023 fiscal year budget requests. The Board discussed department budgets, including general services and ambulance.

The projected revenues for the ambulance department was $381,000. The Board held a lengthy discussion about wages for the ambulance department. Due to increased cost of overtime with the current schedule of full time employees working 24 hour shifts and part time working 12 hour shifts, it was mentioned to adjust so that full time was also working 12 hour shifts, which would create the need to hire one additional employee. An increase for Director Michelle Madsen’s salary of $5,000 plus an additional nine-percent salary increase.

Finally, the Board discussed other non-departmental budgets, including the law enforcement center, portions of the secondary roads department, animal shelter, housing match funds with Region XII Council of Governments, and many more. The Board took no action on the requests.
