A couple of Greene County utility companies were a part of grant recipients to expand broadband internet access.

The Iowa Office of the Chief Information Officer announced the allocation of over $210 million through the Empower Rural Iowa Broadband Grant, with funding provided by the American Rescue Plan Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds for infrastructure projects to help reduce or eliminate unserved or underserved areas in Iowa to receive internet access.

Two such companies in Greene County that received funding include Jefferson Telecom with  $2,540,259 and Scranton Telephone Company in Ralston with $533,298.
