A new judge has been appointed for the district that includes Greene County.

Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds appointed Judge Derek Johnson to the Judicial Election District 2B, which includes Greene, Boone, Carroll, Calhoun, Hardin, Hamilton, Pocahontas, Sac, Humboldt, Webster, Story and Wright counties.

The Fort Dodge native started his legal career after earning his bachelor’s degree in business from Buena Vista University in 1996 and his Juris Doctorate from Drake University Law School in 1999. Prior to being appointed to the bench in 2020, Johnson worked as an associate attorney for Blake Parker Law Office from 1999-2004, served as the Humboldt County Attorney from 2004-2005 and opened his own private practice after that.

Johnson fills a vacancy that was left by Judge Gina Badding who was appointed to the Iowa Court of Appeals.
