For those who have gotten the COVID-19 booster shot there is a possibility that individuals will need a recurrent dose.

Guthrie County Health Services Director Jotham Arber says the decision isn’t finalized, but he believes  that the COVID-19 vaccine definitely could be a possibility of it being an annual vaccination  like the flu shot. Arber states once this current  surge of cases passes and it goes into the next phase of the pandemic, they will know that answer. Arber explains there other methods to fighting COVID-19 that could take the place of a booster.

“For immunocompromised individuals, there are new therapies that are actually out there that are not vaccines. The latest one that I’ve been looking at, it’s like a monoclonal antibody type cocktail that’s given to immunocompromised individuals as a shot twice a year. It’s showing a lot of promise.”

He adds there are additional studies and methods for other medications and therapies that could be effective.
