Greene County SheriffNo one was injured from a one vehicle rollover accident involving three people in Greene County yesterday.

At 1:56pm, Sheriff Steve Haupert says 34 year-old April Janeen Hopkins of Rippey was traveling northbound on U Avenue and 310th Street when she lost control on patches of ice and slid her 2005 Dodge Stratus into a ditch and ended up on the driver’s side.

Haupert states that Hopkins had two children in the vehicle and that the responding deputies had to punch out the back window to get everyone out safely and all occupants were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident.  Luckily, Haupert adds, no one was injured in the accident and were checked out by the Grand Junction Emergency Medical Services personnel at the scene as a precautionary measure.

Haupert notes that Hopkins will not be charged with anything and that the Dodge Stratus sustained $8,000 in damages.  He cautions everyone that with inclement weather coming this weekend, black ice isn’t always noticed and so he wants to remind everyone to drive to the conditions of the weather this weekend to help prevent accidents on the road.

The Grand Junction Fire and Rescue, the Rippey Fire Department assisted the sheriff’s office with the accident.
