For those with furry friends there are a couple safety measures to be aware of during the holidays.

Panora PETS (Protecting Even The Strays) Volunteer Marianna Reeves says there are some Christmas decorations that pet owners want to keep away from their pet.

Same thing with plants, I mean, poinsettias are something that are not safe to have or out for animals, and that is something that can be poisonous to them and can cause some serious health issues for dogs and cats. Same thing with Christmas trees. You know, you want to make sure you’re not using like the tinsel, but maybe they start eating and the next thing you know, it gets into their digestive system.”

She also says feeding human food can cause health problems for pets.

I personally, I think when you introduce foreign foods, something that’s just not there, you run the risk of them, you know, maybe getting ill from that, maybe it’s a little too rich for them. I mean, I know we all think it’s really nice to be able to give them treats, but I think like anything else, you’ve got to use moderation.”

She says putting a barrier between hazardous things can keep a pet away.
