Following Wednesday’s three tornadoes that ripped through Greene County, Governor Kim Reynolds visited some of the harder hit areas on Friday.

Reynolds was joined by Lieutenant Governor Adam Gregg and representatives from the Iowa Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management to further assess the damage the three EF-2 tornadoes did. Her first stop was at the home of Charlie Thompson. Reynolds shared her reaction to seeing the damage firsthand.

“Just seeing the damage scattered across the fields and what it’s done to the buildings, and the storage bins, and it’s just amazing that the house wasn’t damaged more than it is. It’s so crazy, the hit-and-miss. There’s more damage than I thought was done, and to see a 150 year old tree uprooted with the root system, it just really tells you the magnitude of the storms that go through.”

Reynolds talked about another reason why she toured different damaged areas in Greene County.

“We have our Homeland Security Administrator with us, John Benson and his team. We’re here just to let them know that we want to be a resource for them. I had signed the disaster declaration that makes individual assistance and state resources available so we’ll work with the communities, and your local emergency managers, and really do everything we can to get people cleaned up and boxed in.”
