The Greene County School Board met Thursday in regular session.

The meeting began with Board President Steve Fisher talking about possibly incorporating the Pledge of Allegiance at the beginning of their meetings, since students are now required to participate in the classroom. Then during hirings and resignations, the Board approved filing a complaint with the Board of Educational Examiners about 8th grade science teacher Emily Shinkle resigning on December 17th for breach of contract. The Board also approved an accommodation for the resignation of Elementary Principal Scott Johnson, effective at the end of the school year for his 19 years of service to the district.

The Board then approved the At-Risk and Drop Out Prevention Plan for the 2022-23 school year, along with the School Board Review Committee’s modified supplemental amount of $431,679. The Board also approved the Retiree Incentive Pay for Early Notification. This includes any employee that is 55 or older and worked in the district for at least ten years and submit their retirement application by January 14th would receive a $1,000 incentive. 

The Board also approved a disagreement decision with a new federal COVID-19 vaccine mandate that required all Head Start employees to be fully vaccinated and encourage kids to wear their masks when in the classroom. There was also an $8,727 change order for the high school and career academy project that was approved, along with transferring less than $2 from the capital projects fund to the sales tax fund, a fundraiser request as presented and an early graduation request for Matthew Compton.
