The high school wrestling season is over for the Greene County Rams, but head coach Mark Sawhill, his coaching staff, and the wrestlers are already looking forward to next season. The coach told Raccoon Valley Radio he and the other coaches really enjoyed this group of kids. “They worked hard, they accomplished a lot of the goals they had, maybe not all, but a lot of them, and it was a good season.”

The Rams had just nine of the 14 weight classes filled when they won the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference tournament by 1-1/2 points over PCM (Monroe). They finished fourth in the Atlantic Class 2A District and were the highest placing team not a member of the Hawkeye 10 Conference. The Rams were runners-up in the Tiger-Knight Invite in Carroll and fourth in the 22-team Guthrie Center Tiger Invitational.

A lack of numbers prevented the Rams from a winning dual meet season as they forfeited anywhere from three to five weight classes throughout the season. Greene County went 10-11 in dual meets including 5-4 in the HOIAC.

Four Rams qualified for the 2014 state tournament. Senior Jeremy Scheuermann was in his second state tourney while it was the first for senior Dylan Forkner. Junior Jordan Challen has taken part in two state tournaments in Iowa, and sophomore Tommy Bradshaw was an Iowa state tournament qualifier this season after qualifying for state in Missouri last year. None of the four placed in the top eight in their weight classes at state, but three of four did win a state tournament match.
