Greene County and surrounding residents are invited to a Saturday morning competition with some area youngsters.

The Jefferson Elks Lodge is hosting the annual Hoop Shoot contest tomorrow morning at the newly renovated Greene County Middle School gym. Elks member and Co-organizer Les Fister says the competition includes the winners from the physical education classes at Greene County and Paton-Churdan School Districts in ages 8-13.

Fister notes there are four age and gender divisions and the boys and girls that make the most free throws out of 25 will qualify for the district contest that will be held at the middle school gym on January 15th, along with the winners from the Perry, Council Bluffs, Estherville, Boone and Ames Elks Lodges. The top two finishers of each division will receive a trophy.

Fister says registration begins at 9am, with the contest to start around 10. He adds to bring your child’s birth certificate to verify their age for the correct division they will compete in.
