In-person performances have returned to some communities after the coronavirus pandemic halted them last year and another event put on by a local organization in Perry is coming up soon.

Perry Fine Arts Committee Chairperson Cathy Clark says people should look out for the next event coming up at 2:30 p.m. December 12th at the Perry Performing Arts Center.

“The New Horizons Band is a group of people who enjoy performing and sharing their music. There is several New Horizon bands around in the Iowa area.”

Clark tells Raccoon Valley Radio the ensembles are made up of senior citizens who are amateur musicians. Clark explains some of the varying musical backgrounds that make up the different bands.

“They have learned to play instruments when they were in school and other people have learned as adults. They practice once a week and are directed by Ron Reekman, a former instrumental music teacher in the public schools.”

There is no cost to attend the New Horizons Band when it takes place later this month.
