Greene County and Ogden split a girl/boy basketball doubleheader on Monday night on the home court of the Bulldogs. The Rams won 33-29 in the girls’ game and Ogden won 56-55 in the boys’ contest. The games were the first of the season for three of the four teams with the Ogden girls falling to 0-2.

Greene County trailed 16-13 at halftime of the girls’ game, but scored 14 third quarter points to take the lead for good, resulting in a victory in the head coaching debut of Tori Ogden to start the season 1-0. Senior Brianna Habben scored 13 points with junior Emma Hoyle at 10 and freshman Emma Shipley with nine. Habben had 10 rebounds for a statistical “double-double” and Shipley hauled in seven boards. The Rams were 13 of 47 from the field including four of 22 from three-point range. Shipley made three of the long shots and Habben had the other one. Greene County went three of 12 shooting free throws. Ogden made 1o of its first 11 foul shots, but went two of eight in the last quarter. Turnovers were nearly even with 19 by the Rams and 18 for Ogden. The Bulldogs hit just one of 20 three-point shots and were eight of 52 overall from the field.

The Rams were down by 10 points in the boys’ game at 50-40, but an 11-0 run put Chris Nelson’s team up 51-50. The teams traded leads for awhile until Ogden went up by three with 20 seconds to go. The Rams scored on a Braden Roberts put-back basket with three seconds left, but the Rams were out of timeouts, then tried to foul. Following a conference, the three person officiating crew decided time was out and the game was over. Bryce Stalder had 15 points, Richard Daugherty 13 and Jesse Miller 11 as the Rams start 0-1. Roberts came off the bench to score nine. Ogden’s Ty Heeren led all scorers with 18 points. Three-point shooting was a big difference with Ogden six of 23 and the Rams two of 17. Overall, Greene County went 21 of 53 from the field while the Bulldogs were 21 of 47. Neither was great from the foul line with the Rams at 11 of 19 and Ogden eight of 19. Turnovers were almost the same with 17 by Ogden and 16 for Greene County. Jackson Morton fouled out and Miller and Daugherty each had four personals.
