Grow Greene County donates to Holiday Food Program

Two holiday programs for less fortunate families are starting up soon in Greene County.

Greene County Adopt-A-Family and New Opportunities are once again partnering together for the Holiday Food Program, which served over 155 families last year. Greene County New Opportunities Coordinator Teresa Lansman explains the details of the program.

“Usually we help out families with about 3-4 boxes of food, enough food to try to help families over the two weeks that kids are home from school, between Christmas and New Years.”

Grow Greene County Gaming Corporation has also stepped up by donating $5,000 towards the program. Donations for the Holiday Food Program can be dropped off at all Peoples Bank locations in the county, as well as directly to P.O. Box 364 in Jefferson.

Another program is the Toys for Greene County Kids. New Opportunities is asking for toy donations for area youth by dropping off new toys at various collection locations, including the Greene County Engineer’s Office in the county courthouse. Last year, this program served 255 families. Donations will be accepted through December 10th.

Families can also sign up for the Holiday Food Program or the Toy Drive by contacting Lansman at New Opportunities at 515-386-2719.
