The 1972 Guthrie Center football will be recognized during the Class 2A State Championship this Friday.

It is the 50th anniversary of the first football playoff qualifiers for IHSAA. Guthrie Center in 1972 was one of four teams that qualified for the playoffs and lost in the semi-finals to Sioux Center 21-6. The team plans on making the trip to Cedar Falls to be recognized at the UNI Dome. The ceremony will take place at halftime of the Class 2A  State Championship Game, the game will be broadcasted but unclear if the ceremony will be broadcasted.
