The unofficial election results have been released for Greene County.
According to the Greene County Auditor’s Office, 88.76-percent of the 2,363 ballots that were cast voted in favor to continue gambling in Greene County. According to Wild Rose Casino and Resort, over 88-percent is a record for the highest second gaming referendum in Iowa Racing and Gaming history, which also surpassed the 75.1-percent of “yes” votes for the initial gaming referendum eight years ago.
As for the contested races, there were three available seats on the Greene County School Board, three newcomers were elected with Bonnie Silbaugh receiving over 27-percent of the votes, next was Michelle Fields, followed by Cindi Daubendiek. There were two contested mayoral races in Greene County. Jerald Boyd defeated Dave Didericksen by nine votes for mayor of Scranton, and incumbent for Grand Junction Mayor, Gerry Herrick defeated challenger Jason McDowell with 59-percent of the 214 votes.
There were three city council contested races. Jefferson City Council had three available seats and the incumbents were all re-elected, including Pat Zmolek, Darren Jackson and Harry Ahrenholtz. Grand Junction City Council also had three available seats, which went to Paula Hoskinson, Lora Lyons and Mark Renslow. Churdan City Council had two seats available and Mark Kersey and Mary Vogel won.
There were two available seats on the Scranton City Council and no one filed papers to be on the ballot, but there were 99 write-ins, which will be reviewed when the Greene County Board of Supervisors canvass the votes next week.
