We heard from ADM girls basketball coach Brett Watson yesterday as he thanked his seniors for their efforts the past four years, and while it is always tough to say goodbye, the Tigers’ girls program will move on.
Coach Watson returns a solid core of players next year, including three starters and leading scorer Brianna Mueller. The head coach hopes his returning players will put a lot of time in the gym this offseason, and he has some advice for what they should work on the most.
“When we had our lulls or when we had times when we were not very successful (this season), it was on the offensive end. We’ve got to get a lot of shots up–that’s the bottom line. We need some girls to become better shooters and that goes for every one of us because we’re not getting any tallers, so we’re going to have to be able to make some outside shots. I’d really like to see us all put the time in because that’s how you become a better shooter… putting a lot of time in and putting a lot of shots up.”
Another piece of advice from Coach Watson to his players: work on your shooting mechanics at the free throw line. As a team the Tigers shot just 55% from the foul line this season, which was the second worst percentage in the Raccoon River Conference.
