adm-7

Adel-Desoto-Minburn Tigers football participated in first round action of Class 3A state playoff football on Friday night, playing in a thrilling back and forth contest against the Nevada Cubs but the Tigers falling short by the score of 34-26. ADM ends their season with a 7-3 record while Nevada improves to 9-1 and will move on to quarterfinal action against Harlan next week.

ADM and Nevada had an intriguing first half with Nevada scoring early before Brevin Doll scored on a rushing touchdown to make it 6-6 in the second quarter. The Cubs countered with a passing touchdown towards the end of the first half to grab a 13-6 halftime lead.

ADM was able to to produce a massive third quarter, as they were able to take advantage of a Nevada touchdown to have Doll score again to make it 13-12, then one more time in an untimed down to end the quarter to take at 20-13 lead after three quarters.

Nevada scored on running back Cason Stevenson’s 30 yard rush to make it a 20-19 game, and then again with quarterback James Edwards scoring plus the two point conversion to make it 27-20. ADM would put together a huge drive buoyed by a 55 yard run by Matt Dufoe, with Dufoe scoring a couple plays later. ADM would go for two but Dufoe was stuffed to make it 27-26 with around 3:50 to go.

Nevada was able to score once again after ADM let me get into the end zone, but the Tigers were stopped short in their final drive of the game to lose a heartbreaker.

In a game that was physical, skill on both sides, and both teams leaving it all on the field, Nevada was able to survive a slugfest between two good teams.

For ADM, the seven wins are the most since 2011, as they will be losing 13 seniors off of their football team. They will be losing some key starters but will have some big guys returning for next year, as they will look to build positive momentum from what was a great 2021 season.
