Today is National First Responders Appreciation Day and it’s a time to highlight those individuals that are first on the scene of unfortunate events.
Greene County Ambulance Director Michele Madsen says her seven full time and 26 part time employees provide emergency services for the entire county and assist Grand Junction and Churdan Rescue Units on their calls or if they can’t respond. The ambulance crews also provide transport for patients from Greene County Medical Center to other medical facilities if needed.
Madsen talks about her staff and what is the most enjoyable part of being a first responder is in Greene County.
“I think we all enjoy being of service to the citizens of the community in which we live. We’re taking care of our friends, and our families, and our neighbors, and the people that we’ve grown up and known most of our life. Our staff, as far as what I appreciate about them is they give everything they’ve got to this community. And probably more than they have to, to me, to make sure we’re able to serve our communities. We try to take care of each other and we do everything we can to take care of the citizens of Greene County.”
Madsen also appreciates working with law enforcement and fire departments, as they are also first responders and are on several of the scenes that EMS responds to. She is appreciative of the help and support they give them and they are lucky to have such great teamwork between all agencies.
