With October drawing to a close that means open burning will start up soon for Perry residents.

City Administrator Sven Peterson says open burning will officially begin this Sunday and will run until November 21st but people should make sure they know the ins and outs of open burning.

“There will be opportunities for open burning but I encourage residents to familiarize themselves with the rules and regulations around open burning and again that does not start until the end of October.”

Peterson tells Raccoon Valley Radio the new yard waste disposal site is also officially open for people to have an alternative way to get rid of yard waste rather than disposing of it through open burning. The site is located at 14325 Ivy Place.

“There is a bunch of signage and everything giving directions on how to properly separate and drop off your yard waste back there. So, hopefully a good option to alleviate some of the concerns with open burning.”
