At the most recent school board meeting for the Adel-DeSoto-Minburn School District, a decision was made to reopen open enrollment.

Superintendent Greg Dufoe says open enrollment will be available for the first time in five years for kindergarten through eighth grade, but it will remain closed for ninth through twelfth grades. Dufoe says by closing enrollment, that had financial impacts.

“Being closed for the last five years has really had a negative impact on that open enrolled income and we did that purposefully to try to help maintain our class sizes as we saw resident growth and we wanted to help protect class sizes as best we could. Now, with the available classroom space it’s the right time to open enrollment back up.”

Dufoe tells Raccoon Valley Radio there’s more financial incentive now to having enrollment be open to younger students again.

“For every student that open enrolls into us that per pupil amount follows them so it’s over $7,000 per student that open enrolls into ADM, so it’s pretty significant.”

Open enrollment will be available for the ADM School District beginning with the 2022-2023 school year for kindergarten through eighth grade.
