As Election Day draws closer, we are reviewing the candidates running for Greene County School Board and today we are highlighting Nick Lehman.
Lehman is a Greene County native and graduated from East Greene High School in 1996. He is married to his wife Lindy and they have two school-aged children. Lehman has an associates degree from Iowa Central Community College for carpentry, with an emphasis on energy efficiency construction. After working at a lumber yard for 11 years, he went back to work on his family’s farm.
Two issues that Lehman highlights that he believes the school district is facing include declining enrollment and figuring out what is causing students to enroll in other districts, and keeping students from dropping out of school. Lehman wants to know why students are dropping out of school and how the district can help keep them engaged.
Lehman explains why he’s running for Greene County School Board.
“People have told me that they like the way I think, they like how I’m open minded but yet I kind of have a no nonsense approach to how I tackle things. And I think that that’s probably something that I could bring to the school board that would maybe be something different than what we’ve had.”
Lehman is running against Bonnie Silbaugh, Sean Sebourn, Michelle Fields, Cindi Daubendiek and incumbent Catherine Wilson for one of three at-large seats.
