The Gowrie Golf Course is the site of a Class 2A Coed State Qualifying Cross-Country Meet starting at 4 p.m. today. Greene County will have its runners there along with the hosts from Southeast Valley, and 13 other schools. The top three teams and top 15 individuals in each race qualify for the Oct. 30 State Coed Meet north of Ft. Dodge at Kennedy Park.
The Rams don’t have enough girls for a team score, but Coach Jeff Lamoureux is hoping his boys’ squad can challenge for a trip to State. “It’s a tough field with Des Moines Christian, Clear Lake, and Grundy Center/Gladbrook-Reinbeck, all ranked in the top seven in 2A. The State does a good job of splitting up the top 15 teams by putting three ranked teams in each of the five sites, and they’ve done that for this meet. We’ll have to run our very best to qualify for State.”
Injuries and illness sidelined what began as a very promising season for the Rams. Coach Lamoureux said his team is getting healthier, but still isn’t 100 percent.
