Mary J. Barnett Memorial Library held a special program called “Fire Prevention Week Story Hour,” with the Guthrie Center Fire Department Friday
The Story Hour involved reading children’s books about the duties of firefighters and the Guthrie Center Firefighters demonstrating their fire equipment and teaching fire safety.
Firefighter Chuck Cleveland talked about how important it is to get out into the community and with the story hour being one of those ways.
“The kids see us, the people see us that we’re out there to protect the community. It means a lot to us as we like to see the kids smile and maybe they would grow up to be firefighters. It’s just one of those things, it’s just a feeling we enjoy doing.”
Library Aide Cass Fronapfel talks about the excitement with the fire department being at the library.
“Really good thing all around to get people too go, “Hey it’s not just oh boring old Shakespeare and Faulkner novels.’”
The Mommy & Me Story Hours continue every Friday throughout the year from 10am to 10:30am.
