The Dallas County Board of Supervisors approved being a Second Amendment sanctuary county at their regular meeting Tuesday.

It was explained that being a Second Amendment sanctuary county pertains to the Board wanting to ensure that the rights of citizens in Dallas County are protected and that Dallas County opposes the enactment of any legislation or issuance of an executive order that would infringe on the constitutional right to bear arms.

Also, the Board approved a Iowa Department of Natural Resources private well permitting 28E agreement, the abatement of mobile home taxes, an Iowa Department of Transportation Highway 169 improvement preconstruction agreement and awarding the bid for the 250th Street Bridge project to Herberger Construction Company for a total of $649,012.48.

Additionally, the Board approved right-of-way purchase agreements for Panther Creek Road and held public hearings, followed by approving the City of Waukee Raccoon River Valley Trail overland flowage easement and Stratford Crossing LLC Raccoon River Valley Trail temporary construction easement.

Finally, the Board discussed the Tyson Fresh Meats development agreements and will further discuss the topic on next week’s agenda. Also, the Board discussed future county and court space needs, but took no formal action. The Board then moved into closed session to discuss courthouse security.
