The four-man district wrestling competition continues to draw closer for ADM wrestlers Trevor Harsh (132), Zach Johnston (152), Darold Baker (182), Hunter Gibson (190) and Nathan Heath (Heavyweight).
Those five Tigers will compete inside ADM’s North Gym on Saturday for the right to go to the state tournament, but before we jump ahead to those all-important matches, head coach Justin Schmauss has some words of offseason advice for his wrestlers that are now finished for the season.
“Get matches–that’s the best thing I can say is get as many matches in as you can from now until next season. And get quality matches with guys that can beat you, or guys that you’re going to have those one-point matches with–that’s how you can get better is by challenging yourself and seeing what you’ve got.”
Coach Schmauss says he’s pleased with the progress he saw from many of his wrestlers during his first year as head coach, but he hopes they continue to work hard in preparation for next year.
Schmauss says he’s received good practice participation this week from guys whose seasons are over as his whole team tries to rally around the five wrestlers left standing. We’ll have one final look-ahead to Saturday’s district tournament for Harsh, Johnston, Baker, Gibson and Heath during tomorrow’s sports.
