The Iowa high school football season is past the halfway mark and Greene County has won four games in a row and is in sole possession of first place in Class 2A District 8. Coach Caden Duncan’s Rams were 41-0 winners on Friday night at Clarinda to improve to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the district while the Cardinals fell to 1-4, 1-1. Richard Daugherty and the kickoff return team got things off to a rousing start by returning the opening kick 88 yards for a touchdown. Quarterback Bryce Stalder had touchdown passes in the first half to Jackson Morton of 35 yards, Daugherty for 71, and Morton again, this time for 11, all in the first 15-1/2 minutes of playing time. Lamar Anders deflected and intercepted a pass at the Clarinda two yard line and went into the end zone with 28 seconds left before halftime. A two-point conversion pass from Stalder to Morton put the Rams up 35-0 and the rest of the game was played with a continuous clock. Patrick Daugherty rounded out the scoring with 6:50 to play in the game on a three yard run.
The offense had 201 passing yards and 150 on the ground for 351 while the defense held the Cardinals to just 124 total yards with 81 on the ground and 43 through the air. Running back Tadyn Brown had 229 rushing yards the week before playing the Rams, but managed just 54 against the stingy Greene County “D.” In addition to the Anders “pick six” Max Riley intercepted a Clarinda pass. During the four-game winning streak, the Rams have allowed a total of three points and pitched shut outs three times.
Anders had 36 yards to lead the Rams on the ground and Morton had 89 receiving yards, followed by Daugherty’s 71 through the air. Stalder was 8-12-0 for 201.
