With the changing of the seasons, comes a change to the look of the downtown square in Jefferson.
Recently, the Design Team with Jefferson Matters: A Main Street and Chamber Community, along with community volunteers, changed all of the brick column and cluster planters to an autumn arrangement. Design Team Chair Karen Lawton feels there was great response to the new Adopt a Planter program.
“These are businesses, book clubs, churches, just individuals. I couldn’t have been more happy with the result that we had from putting out that plea for volunteers. We thank them very much.”
Lawton points out during the spring and summer months, city crews and Jefferson Kiwanis Club volunteers watered each planter nearly every day. She also talks about where the flowers came from during the spring and summer months, as well as the autumn items.
“Our product came from Greene Goods Market this year. The fall things, Bonnie (Silbaugh) from Fudge’s kind of put together the fall. She gets the pumpkins and the gourds from Deal’s Orchard. So we have a lot of local vendors involved in this as well and we’re happy about that.”
The planters will be changed out once again during the winter season.
