A new monthly program on KGRA 98.9FM is connecting high school students with real-world learning opportunities.
Greene County High School’s Greene Spaces is a class that allows students to cover news-worthy topics within the high school. This year, the class is taking their coverage to a new level with radio broadcasting the last Friday of each month on KGRA 98.9FM. English teacher Kirsten Carman says she reached out to Raccoon Valley Radio General Manager John McGee to have the students not only learn more about broadcast journalism but to also be on the radio delivering news topics from elementary, to middle and high school.
Carman tells Raccoon Valley Radio the Greene Spaces students are responsible for generating and researching news topics and writing the scripts. Carman notes the first recording of the Greene Spaces News Program that will air this Friday at 6:40am and 4:40pm went extremely well. Three students will be featured with more to come during the monthly program.
