The Greene County boys’ basketball team went 10 of 21 from three-point range and played some of its best defense of the season as they snapped a six-game losing streak in a game heart Tuesday night on KG98 from the middle school gym in Jefferson. Coach Jeramie Hinote’s Rams defeated Saydel (Des Moines) for the second time in as many meetings to improve to 6-13 overall and 5-12 in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference. The Eagles ended the conference slate at 7-11 and they fell to 8-11 overall.
Greene County won 65-50 after trailing 29-26 at the half. The final margin was the largest of the game. Freshman Trey Tucker scored 22 points with 17 by junior Landon Braun and 11 from sophomore Tyler Beger. Five different Rams had at least one goal from three-point range led by four from Braun.
Saydel Senior Kyle Walter doubled his game average by scoring 24 points for Saydel, but the Rams shut out leading score Alex Gustafson who entered the game scoring over 16 points a contest.
Next up for the Rams is the final HOIAC game of the season. It’s a Thursday night make up contest in Nevada. The Cubs were 59-50 winners in Jefferson on Jan. 31. The action is a JV/varsity twin bill and KG98 will bring you the varsity game around 7:15 p.m. Thursday.
