The Perry School District has approved their 2014-2015 school calendar and they plan to switch the way they measure time in class next year.
“Our calendar looks the same and we’re kind of on the day schedule but we will go ahead on our reporting and say we’re on hours because there’s a little glitch in the law. They’ll fix it I’m sure, and they’re probably working on it right now, it wasn’t their intent to say that if you came to school for three hours and had to let out for snow that you couldn’t count it as a day but the recent legislation, that’s exactly what it says. Obviously, most districts are going to go to hours because they have plenty of hours in their schedule” says Ubben.
That’s Superintendent Lynn Ubben. The district hasn’t set times for the upcoming school year just yet because Ubben says the elementary school is looking for a way to add 30 more minutes of academic time to the school day
So far the district has had three days of school cancelled due to snow and cold, so the last day of the school year at this point is scheduled for Tuesday June 3rd.
