Greene County improved to 2-1 on the football season with a 13-3 Linduska Field victory over Kuemper Catholic (1-2) in Jefferson on Friday night. Coach Caden Duncan’s team overcame 13 penalties for 110 yards and three turnovers, all pass interceptions, in the contest. The game was heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
One of the penalties was a hold that wiped out a first quarter run into the end zone by quarterback Bryce Stalder that would have put the Rams up early. Instead the game was scoreless until the Knights Tommy Fitzsimmons kicked a 30 yard field goal with 3:22 to play in quarter number three. The lead didn’t last long as Richard Daugherty returned Kuemper’s kickoff 88 yards to the three and Stalder scored from one yard out two plays later. Nathan Behne kicked the PAT for a 7-3 Greene County lead.
The only other points came from reserve running back Patrick Daugherty from 51 yards out with 6:29 to play. A bad snap on the PAT try forced an errant pass into the end zone.
The defense for Greene County held the Knights to 64 rushing yards on 39 carries, but Kuemper had 114 through the air on 8-19-1 with Richard Daugherty getting a pass interception. Logan Higgins recovered a fumble by the Knights.
Nate Black had 85 rushing yards on 15 carries and Patrick Daugherty had four carries for 64 yards as Greene County went 37 for 215 rushing and threw for 70 more as Stalder was 7-16-3.
Next up is a trip to Des Moines Christian School in Urbandale vs. the Lions at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17 on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
