Greene County football plays Kuemper Catholic (Carroll) at Linduska Field in Jefferson tonight, followed by Saturday morning’s lone home cross-country meet of the season.
Tonight’s non-district football game can be heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. Coverage begins at 6:15 p.m. with kickoff at 7 o’clock. Both teams are 1-1 on the season and both posted shut out victories last week. The Knights were 34-0 winners in Carroll over Atlantic while the Rams blanked Perry 63-0 in the annual “Cowbell” game at Linduska Field.
Junior Taye Vonnahme is off to a quick start on the ground for the Knights with 278 yards on just 26 carries. Senior lineman Cal Wanninger leads the defense, which held Atlantic to just 123 total yards (80 rushing, 43 passing).
Greene County displayed multiple offensive weapons vs. Perry with seven pass completions to seven different receivers, and a potent rushing attack from several different players. The defense held the Blue Jays to minus 8 total yards and that included reserves playing the entire second half.
The cross-country meet starts at 10 a.m. tomorrow at Jefferson Community Golf Course on the south edge of town with 10 different schools competing. Races are for middle school and high school girls and boys. The public won’t be allowed to park near the golf course. Public parking lots are available at Jefferson Church of Christ and Greene County Middle School.
