Greene County topped Collins-Maxwell and Glidden-Ralston to open the high school volleyball season Tuesday night in the air conditioned Greene County High School gym. The Rams were 25-10, 25-12 winners over C-M, then edged G-R 25-22 and 25-23.
Coach Chris Heisterkamp’s team dispatched the Spartans in a tidy 35 minutes. After a 1-1 tie in set one, the Rams won by 15 points. Greene County trailed 2-5 in set two before dominating the rest of the way for the victory. Natalie Heupel three ace serves vs. C-M with one each by Graci Conklin and Bella Schroeder.
The match vs. G-R was much tougher. The Rams trailed 14-19 in set one before scoring 11 of the last 14 points for the win. Set two saw Greene County lead 7-2 before the lead disappeared and the Rams tailed 17-18. The set was tied 23-23 before the Rams scored the final two points to win the set and match. In set number two, Katrina Heupel had two ace serves while Schroeder and Emma Ewalt each had one.
Ft. Dodge St. Edmond visits Greene County tomorrow night in JVR, JV, and varsity volleyball.
