Nevada dominated the varsity portion of Greene County’s sports drink football scrimmage at Linduska Field in Jefferson on Friday night. The Cubs threw three touchdown passes on their first three possessions for the only TDs that counted, although they had another called back by penalty. The Rams had three turnovers, two interceptions and a lost fumble, while picking up a pair of late pass interceptions from the Cubs.
The JV and JVR (mainly freshmen with some sophomores) played the Cubs once the varsity was done.
Cade Duncan is starting his third season guiding the Rams and he spoke with Raccoon Valley Radio after the scrimmage. “We got off to a slow start on the varsity. We have to come more prepared and be a lot more intense from the git-go. Our impressions of Nevada is that they’re going to be a pretty darn solid team, too. They’re big across the board and athletic, but if we want to compete at a high level in Class 2A, that’s what that type of team looks like at that level. Hopefully, it’s a wake up call and a little bit of medicine for us.”
The Rams open the regular season at 7 p.m. on Aug. 27 in Guthrie Center vs. ACGC on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
