Greene County has been well represented at this year’s Iowa State Fair.

Greene County 4-H’ers earned 21 blue ribbons for static exhibits. Greene County ISU Extension Director Lori Mannel shares some additional awards for two 4-H’ers with their static exhibits.

“Eliot Schilling in food and nutrition prepared products, she received a food and nutrition special award. Madison Truitt did a visual arts-original art, she received the judge’s choice visual arts award. I’d like to say she’s in her top 12 of the entire state, and there were over 320 projects. So congratulations Madison.”     

Additionally for communication exhibits, Avery Bardole earned a certificate of recognition with seal of merit for extemporaneous speaking and Briella McDonad and Emmalin Wright also received a certificate of recognition with seal of merit. There were also some 4-H livestock competitions that as of Tuesday morning, 4-H’ers picked up 22 purple ribbons, including eight by Cody Stephenson in poultry and he also earned reserve grand champion bantam.

Greene County FFA has also done well at the state fair. As of Tuesday morning, Emma Halterman was first in her class for large aged ponies and aged geldings, and was grand champion in western type horses and pony breeds. Ethan Frederick was first in his class for breeding heifer chianina and was also reserve grand champion chianina. Kyle Hughes was grand champion in spot breeding gilt and Kayla Muir was first in her class for high percentage maine-anjou.

Finally, in the open classes and taking home first place for the 18 and over most look alike contest was Kay Moranville and Karen Pope of Jefferson.
