New K-9 Unit aids in arresting two suspects on drug charges in Greene County.
Chief Deputy Sheriff Jack Williams says at 8:03am on Wednesday, two deputies along with himself and his new German shepherd K-9 Leo responded to a call of two alleged suspicious males at the Sparky’s One Stop gas station in Rippey.
Williams states that an initial investigation by responding deputy Heath Enns led to an arrest of 44 year-old Anthony David Rothmeyer of Grand Junction for an outstanding warrant in Dallas County and admitted to there being drugs in Mathew James Kilts of Perry’s 2003 Ford Escape that he was riding in.
After his arrival, Williams notes that Leo did a search of the vehicle and found suspected Methamphetamine laying under the passenger seat .
Then, Williams talked with Kilts who was in the restroom when he was searching Kilt’s vehicle and Williams initially didn’t have anything to detain the 33 year-old and so Williams let him go. Later, he searched the restroom and couldn’t find anything and then brought his K-9 into do a search. Williams describes what happened next.
“I went and got Leo and brought him inside and he indicated on the sink. And then, we went out and got our flashlights and looked down into the sink drain and there’s suspected marijuana stuffed down in the sink drain.”
Rothmeyer was booked and remains in the Greene County Jail on charges of a serious misdemeanor for possession of methamphetamine and simple misdemeanors for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Kilts currently has an arrest warrant filed by the sheriff’s office for a charge of possession of marijuana.
Leo has only been with the sheriff’s office for three days since the K-9 and Williams completed their training about two weeks ago.
