Next weekend, the Greene County ISU Extension office in Jefferson will be hosting a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program.

Coordinator Michael Cooley says they are working in conjunction with the Guthrie County Extension office to put on this event.  The VITA program allows for anyone whose adjusted gross income is below $57,000 and are filing basic federal and state returns are eligible to receive free tax preparation from Internal Revenue Service-trained and certified local volunteers.

He states that the volunteers cannot help you with capital gains/losses, farm or rental income, employee business expenses or moving expenses.

To speed up the refund process, Cooley asks that you have a savings or checking account numbers with you so that your refund can be automatically deposited into your account, although its not required the day of event.

It will be on Saturday, February 15th at the extension office in Jefferson and you must call ahead to set up an appointment by contacting the Guthrie County Extension office at 641-747-2276.
