As the outlook of the pandemic continues to change, more organizations are returning to planning their normal events.
Reverend Andrea Brownlee with the First Christian Church in Perry says when the pandemic began, the Clothes Closet had to be shut down. Now, Brownlee says the program has started again by offering those in the community items they may need.
“We hoped it was only going to be for a few months. We were just going to stop having the Clothes Closet and then that turned into almost ten months of being closed. We were still taking donations and so we had volunteers coming in and organizing and reorganizing how the Clothes Closet was set up.”
Brownlee tells Raccoon Valley Radio the Clothes Closet made its return earlier this spring as organizers felt safe holding the event. Brownlee says there are an array of items and reminds people the Clothes Closet is free.
“We have a lot of clothing for all kids through adults. We have some household items, bedding, those kind of things and those are also the things we take for donation. We can’t accept furniture or like major appliances and those kind of things.”
The Clothes Closet takes place every Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon at the First Christian Church in Perry. Brownlee says people can donate items whenever they want, not just on Saturday’s by contacting the First Christian Church.
