For those that need help getting school supplies for their child, Guthrie County New Opportunities is putting on a Back to School Supply Drive before the upcoming school year starts.
New Opportunities Director Rhonda Huggins says this initiative will ensure parents can set their child up for success this incoming school year with supplies for school. She describes the kinds of items people can donate or receive.
“Some of the items we are looking for are your typical school supplies: safety scissors, pocket folders in all different colors, erasers, washable markers, crayons, water color paints, glue sticks are a big deal, Elmer’s glue and dry erase markers so all of these we are collecting for our kids.”
Huggins notes the supply drive usually serves 50 kids in Guthrie County that are 14 and younger. Parents can go to the New Opportunities website to apply for school supplies or call their office in Guthrie Center and they assist you. Also, there are a number of places where you can drop off donations: 400 State Street, Hometown Foods, Ben’s Five and Dime and Dowd Drug in Guthrie Center.
