The Greene County Fair officially wrapped up the year with the Junior Fair Premium Auction.
According to Greene County Fair Board Secretary Doug Hawn, the auction brought in more than $26,000, which were donated by various individuals, organizations and companies with all of the funds going back to Greene County youth that participated in the fair. Greene County ISU Extension 4-H and Youth Coordinator Kayla Willms appreciates the community support for the youth.
“When the Fair Board called and told me the number, I was really impressed and glad to see the support out there. Whether it’s family members, or businesses, or whoever, we’ve got a great support system throughout the entire county. So we really appreciate everybody that was able to and willing to give that money to the kids this year.”
In addition to the 31 4-H static exhibits that qualified for the Iowa State Fair, there were three communication exhibits that moved onto the state fair as well, including Avery Bardole for extemporaneous speaking, Bailey and Becca Anderson each had a poster that qualified. Ilse Hooper qualified for state fair in the $15 fashion challenge, along with one working exhibit from Emmalin Wright and Briella McDonald.
Willms talks about the amount of people that came back to the county fair this year, after the pandemic-stricken year in 2020 when no one from the public was allowed on the fairgrounds.
“Some of it is just the crowd of people that walk up to you or walk into a building, and it’s kind of cool to see that back on the fairgrounds after a year of, we did the best we could last year with the cards we were dealt. But it was really fun.”
