U.S. Congresswoman Cindy Axne
Iowa’s Third Congressional District Representative Cindy Axne recently voted to include funding for Iowa infrastructure projects in the U.S. House Surface Transportation Authorization legislation.
Axne says a portion of the dedicated federal funds are targeted within her house district, including more than $2.3 million for a new facility for the Heart of Iowa Transit Agency in Waukee, which operates in Perry and Adel.
“I’m very excited to report that I have brought back nearly $22 million in direct funding for these projects; there are six total in our Third Congressional District.
Axne tells Raccoon Valley Radio overall, the infrastructure package looks to bring more than $3.5 billion in direct funding to the State of Iowa through the INVEST in America Act, which Axne says is needed.
“There’s a lot of money to give to states like Iowa to fix these bridges, this is really important. Iowa is literally bottom of the barrel when it comes to the safety of our bridges, which isn’t good. We’ve got families passing through, we’ve got goods going to market, this has got to get fixed. That’s why this is a really important bill.”
Iowa currently has the highest number of structurally deficient bridges in America with the Iowa Department of Transportation rating almost 4,500 bridges as poor.
