The burn ban in Greene County has been lifted.
Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams tells Raccoon Valley Radio that with the recent rainfall the county has received, the burn ban is no longer in effect. This means that open burning is allowed once again. Rural residents planning to do a controlled burn should call the law enforcement center non-emergency number and let them know what day, your location and the time the control burn will begin.
The burn ban being lifted also means Jefferson residents can once again open burn on their own property. Only yard waste is allowed to be burned openly, no garbage is permitted.
Williams reminds rural residents that if they aren’t notified about a controlled burn and it gets out of hand and fire personnel have to respond, the landowner can be cited.
