As it is the season for unpredictable weather around Adair and Guthrie counties , there is a way to stay aware with the  Alert Iowa System.

The Alert Iowa System uses your exact location to notify you when severe weather is near you. Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Management Coordinator Bob Kempf says recently there have been changes to the Alert Iowa System for both counties.

“The company and software behind the Alert Iowa System, which was provided to us at no cost through the state and funded by the state legislature, allows us to use the same system the state uses to pass that information on. So basically the change is that as of July 1 the state is switching the software that controls that.”

Kempf recommends signing up for the new system at Smart911.com or call the Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Management Office. Additionally, whenever there is a severe thunderstorm or a tornado warning issued for Guthrie, Dallas or Greene counties, Raccoon Valley Radio’s Severe Weather Action Team provides live coverage of the storm until the storm drops to below severe levels or moves out of the area.
