The Dallas County Fair Queen competition was unable to be held in 2020 due the pandemic but there was a queen crowned this year.
There were eight contestants in the fair queen competition and yesterday soon to be senior at Adel-DeSoto-Minburn High School Carly Kuhse was crowned the 2021 Dallas County Fair Queen. Kuhse says it was a good feeling to be named the queen after the competition returned this year.
“I didn’t even know that that was something that I could do I thought I had to be older than this so last year I wasn’t even planning on competing but there were a lot of girls out this year compared to usual we had like eight contestants and a lot of them I knew and that was really fun. It’s been nice to kind of get back to normal after last year.”
Dallas County Fair Queen Coordinator Darcy Spellman tells Raccoon Valley Radio it was a good feeling to see all of the contestants be able to build on their leadership qualities and skills throughout the competition process. Spellman says it was good to have the competition again.
“It was great to have a great group of judges throughout the whole county be able to share in this process, it was great to see all of their applications and how big of leaders they are whether they are from the northern part of Dallas County the southern part or the middle part of Dallas County. Having this back in person has been great to see all of the support throughout Dallas County.”
The Dallas County Fair Queen competition was last held in 2019 after taking last year off due to the pandemic.
